Parsi Zoroastrian Association of Southeast Asia (PZAS)

The Parsi-Zoroastrian presence in Singapore dates back nearly two centuries. Indian Parsi-Zoroastrian traders and merchants such as the Wadias, Petits, and Tatas established thriving trade routes with China through Asian ports including Singapore. This history is filled with stories of enterprise, philanthropy, and community spirit, well-documented in the 2017 book "The Parsis of Singapore: History, Culture, Cuisineā€ by Suna Kanga and Subina Khaneja.

It serves the Parsi-Zoroastrian residents of Singapore and Malaysia.

The Parsi Zoroastrian Association of South East Asia was formally established in May 1954. It serves the Parsi-Zoroastrian residents of Singapore, and Malaysia. With over 350 members in Singapore today, PZAS manages the Parsi Cemetery under the Parsi Lodge Charity and operates the Zoroastrian House (ZH) community centre. ZH is a vibrant space for talks, celebrations, and gatherings. It also houses ā€œThe Joyous Flameā€, a two-floor permanent exhibition co-curated with the Parzor Foundation.

A vibrant, inclusive community

Singapore’s Parsi-Zoroastrians form a dynamic and close-knit community. Senior members who have lived here for decades provide guidance and mentorship and are deeply involved in community events. The PZAS committee regularly brings members together for a variety of social and cultural activities including potlucks, expert talks, quiz nights, holiday celebrations, and traditional festivals. Special events are designed for children to learn about Zoroastrian culture and customs. Sunday morning prayers have been held at ZH for over thirteen years and are conducted by dedicated volunteer mobeds. ZH has also been the venue for several Navjotes and weddings.

Community engagement and interfaith harmony

The Zoroastrian community has been actively engaged in Singapore society and is highly respected by government and civic institutions. The Zoroastrian faith has two council seats on the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), which promotes interfaith understanding and unity in Singapore’s multicultural society.

A global community in Singapore

Zoroastrians from India, Pakistan, Iran, Australia, the UK, the US, and other parts of the world have made Singapore their home. PZAS welcomes all warmly. Young families and professionals in IT, banking, and marketing are among our members. Together, they represent a joyful and energetic community that adds a unique cultural flavour to life in Singapore.
